Forward Air Has Raised Their Prices!!!!!

What Was $125.00 Last Year Is Now $420.00 To Ship A Bike From Florida To Los Angeles

This is what we started with.

This is what we'll turn it into.

Some of the guys selling bikes on E-Bay know every trick in the book. This was the side of the bike they didn't show a picture of.  We bought another tank on E-Bay that was listed as a K2 and it turned out to be a K1 tank with bondo in the emblem area.

I'm wondering if someone may have a suggested way of cleaning out
a Z50a K1
tank that's has some rust in it that sometimes gets into the fuel
line.

 Thanks for the help

The easiest way is to use teh Kreem system on it. check w/ local
Yamaha dealer if you have trouble finding it

50/50 mix of CLR and water , shaken hard with some small hard balls,
like bearings, strain it, put it back in tank, let it sit overnight,
shake it again, strain it, until you are happy.  it really does work !

but your arms fall off.

This is the tank we bought . I call it "The Bondo King" because it needed so much bondo to fill the dents from the front forks, but we were just happy to have a tank that didn't leak at this point. To keep from possibly sand blasting any holes in an already weak tank we opted to chemically paint strip the tank down to the bare metal. We painted on the  air craft stripper with a 2" paint brush and let it sit for 10 minutes, then re-applied a second coat after pressure washing off the first. After a couple coats of plastic filler and a some sanding with 80 grit sandpaper it's ready for the gray epoxy primer.

I have a sure fire way to restore the old minitrail tanks. I grind
the seam weld on the bottom and separate
the upper and lower halves. Then the inside can be sandblasted, dents
dinged out, rust cut out and patched
or plated from the inside, and weld the two halves back together. The
splitting and welding is about two hours.
After I use aircraft tank sloshing compound to stop any further rusting
of the interior. It is a lot of work but
the only non industrial way I can think of to clean a severely rusted
tank.

The frame we sand blasted down to bare metal and primed . With some spot putty we filled minor imperfections. I do not show here in this picture but, the chain had come off this bike many times and a lot of work was put back into welding the frame to build it back up with metal and grind it back down to perfection on the inside of the rear wheel plate. Remember these bikes are over 30 years old and still alive and kicking.

We used a pretty color yellow but not the correct Mexican Yellow Honda used. The correct color is much lighter and more caramel in color. The paint was easy to put on mostly because it is not candy color which is trickier.  You can buy all this including the clear coat from your local paint supplier.

If you have a Honda Mini and need a title for it, C.A.R. Classic Automotive Registation in Cleveland, Alabama can fix you up for $75.00 pre 1975. If you would like to get more info call them at 1-888-878-1172.

Here is a correction for your website.  You state that you can get a title for your minibike through C.A.R.  This is not true if you live in some states.  On C.A.R.'s website they state that their service is not available
if you live in Washington (were I live) Ohio, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, or Minnesota. (See their "Rates" page at the bottom).
I went through Titles Unlimited 1-800-325-8136.  They cost a little more
(100 dollars versus 75 dollars for C.A.R) but I was able to get a title for
my restored CT70 with no problem.
See ya
Joe

The entire bike was painted with white base coat and then yellow applied over that. We waited two weeks before putting the white on the tank. Don't get in a hurry. Wait for the yellow paint to dry before putting on the white stripe. To paint the white tank bottom we measured 3/4 inches from the bottom of the front of the tank. I eye balled mine but, you can make a mark with a lead pencil or you can also use a crayon.

At the back of the tank we again put a mark at 3/4 inches above the center. With masking tape and paper we masked off the upper yellow portion of the tank and put a couple light coats of white paint on the bottom of the tank. We let dry for a few hours and with a Scotch-Bright pad we scuffed up the painted edge to help smooth the line before we apply the clear.

Once again, as you can see, we started with a beat-up old tank. put some body filler in it and sanded it down to perfection. Then sprayed some epoxy primer and sealer on it coating top and bottom.  After wet sanding with 400 grit sand paper and re-applying primer until we have all imperfections sanded out, we painted it and cleared it with urethane clear. I can't wait to put it together!
