This is the first bike I restored, and to this day my favorite. Although, the Candy Yellow Special from this year is a close second! (Notice that the muffler guard is not NOS? I put the original back on when I take it to show...)

My fascination started with a need to get my wife out riding trails with me.  I hadn't ever seen or heard of the dubious Trail 70, but when I finally did, I was instantly transfixed. That was 9 years ago. Now, after many bikes have come and gone, I still have the same enthusiasm as I did then.
My first bike, back in '96, is a CT70K1H. Candy Ruby Red, the color alone was enough to draw me in! I restored this bike in my living room, literally in front of the TV, usually watching the Speed Channel. Some nights, until way after midnight, with a regular job to report to at 6 am the next morning....
With the help and expertise of Steve Cleveland, Enumclaw Minitrail Factory, many hours were spent perfecting the art of top quality restoration. As well as surfing the web for knowledge and parts.

Many good people along the way have provided me with invaluable information and inspiration, most notably, the incomparable Minibike Boy. A huge amount of thanks is owed to you!

Now my sole business is restoration. I had to give up the 26 years of printing trade to pursue that which made me the happiest.
What I have to show you here are several of the more recent restorations that I've completed for one single client, who I am in the process of compiling a collection of 18 bikes for. Mostly CT70's and Z50's with more being added as his enthusiasm grows. All Museum Quality with close to 200 hours spent on each, restored with NOS parts, complete teardown and restored inside and out. I myself, am truly envious of this man's quest!
Please enjoy what I have to show and if you would like to ask questions, you can contact me at cvs1@comcast.net
There will be much more to come!
Cheers all,
Carl Van Sickle

Here is what the Candy Emerald Green K0H started out as. I really like the Topaz color, but I just love the Emerald Green.....
Below you'll see a bunch of miscellaneous restoration shots with any helpful notations. I won't go into detail here, as Minibike Boy, The Master, has all of that covered!

Here's a close-up of the battery box. All of my restorations get new harnesses and NOS Green 'Y' batteries.

I spend a lot of time on the carburetor. The heart of this little bike needs work, and look, like new.

Some options that were available, in my mind, are absolute necessesities. This grab handle for instance...
Here's a frame shot with some of the subassemblies in place. When you get to this point, it's hard to stop no matter what time it is. (My sweetheart has a hard time understanding this concept!)
Blasted, painted, cleared, polished and rechrome. 'cause when your wheels look good, you look good!

Okay, I'll admit it. Sometimes when the parts come in, even to this day after so many orders, I still like to sit down and admire them.

Vigilance and a ton of patience got me this NOS speedometer. All my restorations will have Zero miles when they leave the shop. It has a couple of tenths from moving around the showroom.

This motor, was at one time in six separate boxes. Completely apart and rebuilt.

Candy Emerald Green they called it, and this picture does not do it justice. When the sun hits this bike, it really comes alive. That's three stage PPG paint...

The right side is the most photogenic side of these little bikes. And furthermore, "It ain't cool if your chrome don't shine!"
Seat cover? There is only one source and if you found me, you found it! passion and attention to detail is unsurpassed!
I've got to have a quick shot of the rear and all of the chrome that goes into it.
All new N.O.S. front and rear fender. This is the only way to go with a 100% restoration like I do with each one
Carl, Please let me thank you for the "Best" restoration a of a CT70 I have seen yet. You are truly a master at making these bikes look like new again. If anyone needs a bike restored back to original specs I will certainly refer them to you.

Here it is finished. This bike is destined for a private collector, one part of a soon to be 18 bike collection. Many hours were spent restoring this little gem and no corners were cut. I hope you've enjoyed viewing these pictures as I look forward to bringing you more. And remember, without Minibike Boy who made this so easy and possible, I would never have been able to share this with you! Thanks, you have my utmost respect. Keep the excitement! And give us all some more of those HILARIOUS VIDEOS!!!!!

Talk to you soon,

Carl
