Three 1971  four speed models, two 1972 four speed models,

We bought this bike off E-Bay along with eight others. Make sure you ask if the bike has any life left in it. This engine is in for an entire rebuild at a cost of $700.00.

I had been looking in my town for three years at local dealerships until I found it. It's not my original bike but, this is the one I had.

This is me at 13 with my brand new 1971 Honda Trail 70 H Model.

This is me 30 years later with my two favorite toys of all time.

Here is a 1973 Honda Mini Trail 70 bike we bought off E-Bay for $900.00 shipping included. The transmission on this one needs work.  He said it "starts first kick."
That's impossible. The kick shaft is stripped.

First I paid $900.00 for a bike on e-Bay from a guy who said it starts first kick and it needed a complete re-build.  Second, after sending the motor in for a re-build the guy sent it back as ugly and dirty as the day I sent it to him. He charged me $700.00 which I sent him cash Next Day Air. The motors leaks at the shifter seal because this guy didn't change the seal. The clutch also seems to slip because I don't think he even put new clutch plates in it. Side covers were not painted either.
Now with shipping I have $1,600.00 in this bike and if I were to put it back up on eBay today, I would probably get $800.00 for it.

Don't make the same mistakes as me!
Listen to me now, believe me later.

We bought this one off a Honda Trail 70 message board. Another disappointment. Why does the picture always look better than the actual bike?

We now own thirteen Honda Trail 70's and two Mini Trail 50's that were all purchased in the last twelve months from E-Bay and message boards. Take my advise, unless you have lots of time and nothing to do with your money. Buy a bike for $1,800.00 with low mileage (600-900 miles) before you buy a junker for $600.00. Better to buy a cherry low mileage bike than a fixer upper for $1,000.00 that needs $2,000.00 worth of engine rebuild and parts.

 UP DATE

The motor was rebuilt . After a carburetor rebuild the bike actually started the third kick. I used a 2x4 to straighten the handle bars and cleaned the bike from top to bottom. An old toothbrush, some 000 steel wool with some industrial type cleaner and lots of water will turn one of these old "has beens" into a new daily rider.  Headlamp buckets on all these old ones are most always messed up with cracks because Honda made them out of plastic.  A headlamp bucket is available from Honda in red only for about $35.00. The headlamp bezel is no longer available from Honda with the adjustable screw so I recommend the new headlamp assembly without the adjustment screw.

Lookie lookie. We finally get a good deal on E-Bay. We just bought this one for $345.00. This is an all original 1969 CT70 three speed (the first one) right down to the white plastic tie straps on the handle bars.
Yes the carb came with it too! We will show some of the differences as we proceed with the restoration.

Finally my favorite restoration. We will do this one last.

We will show you how to restore those old ugly shocks to new condition without paying $150.00 each for new N.O.S. stuff on E-Bay. The best part about it is these shocks are still available from your local Honda shop. I just got a pair yesterday for my 1971 KO H  from Honda for $75.00 each complete!
