Blue 82

Over the past 10 years my brother and I have
effectively been competing with our radio control
toys. Like everyone else, we started off in the
electric cars, then gas cars then boats then airplanes
and then things started to get bigger. We raced C & X
class hydroplanes, 1/8th Scale hydros, 1/5th scale
cars, I have an 80" wing Cub hanging from the ceiling
and it just never stops.

Well about 4 months ago, my bro decides to change the
game, he picked up a perfect 1992 Honda CT70 with
under 1000 miles. OUCH it's too pretty!! He let me
ride it and BAMM I was hooked, what a great toy.
I went out and bought 2 used ones, an 80 and 82 both
are in Tahitian Red. I justified the purchase as
"honey we will use these when we go camping". Ya right
!! Both came with California titles, so they were
close to street legal from the get go. Just like
everyone else, I  started shopping on line for new and
use parts. Searching on Ebay, I found a guy that was
selling House of Kolor Paints as a kit for $80.

  At
first I thought this is  BS, no way you can get enough
material to paint a motorcycle for $80. With years of
airbrush and auto painting as a hobby I knew this was
too good to be true. My 1/8th scale hydroplane cost
$300 just in painting materials.  I emailed him, we
exchanged emails and I took the big challenge.
Can the $80 paint package really do a CT70. Well the
fact is YES and with plenty to spare. I changed the 82
paint color from red to blue  because my wife's
Suburban and 80CT are both Red.

  I chose the House of
Kolor Cobalt Blue Kandy. The ghost flames and
checkered flags are done in House of Kolor Neon Rose
and Chartreuse over the base coat. Once the Kandy coat
is applied all the airbrush work goes ghost. Painting
a bike is really easy, you can buy a $30 touch up gun
at Home Depot and thats really all you need. Here was
my schedule
Day 1- Disassembly/ Sand and Prep
Day 2- Primer
Day 3- Base Coat/ Kandy Coat and Clear Coat all 20
mins apart.

I let the bike dry for 2 days and put her back
together on the 2nd day.
The bike is effectively brand new now; almost all the
parts have either been restored or replaced with OEM.
To finish my radio control story, I finally got my
brother; I am flying large scale RC Helicopters now!!
He is just shaking his head, a custom blue 82 that is
in better shape then his high dollar 92... D'oh!

Thanks
